Commission Terms
Effective date: November 1, 2026
A commission is a collaboration between your vision and my palette. These terms help us both know what to expect, so we can focus on the fun part: making something just for you.
These terms are an agreement between you ("the client") and Kindra Knight Parker Studio ("KKP," "I," or "me"). Before I start, I'll ask you to agree to these terms in writing. A reply email saying "I agree" is enough.
1. How it works
- Request. You fill out the commission request form. Tell me about your idea, space, size, colors, and budget.
- Consultation. We talk through your vision. I'll share ideas and answer questions.
- Proposal. I send a written proposal with the size, materials, price, and estimated timeline.
- Deposit. You pay a 50% deposit to hold your spot. My work begins once the deposit is paid.
- Concept. I share a sketch, mock-up, or concept for your feedback.
- Painting. I create your piece. I may share progress photos along the way.
- Completion. I send you photos of the finished work.
- Final payment. You pay the remaining 50%.
- Delivery. I pack and ship (or deliver) your painting.
2. Price and payment
- The price is listed in your proposal. Shipping, insurance, and sales tax are added separately, unless the proposal says otherwise.
- Deposit: 50% of the price, due before I begin. The deposit is non-refundable. It holds your place in my schedule and covers my planning time, design work, and materials.
- Final payment: the remaining 50%, plus shipping and tax. It's due within 14 days after I send completion photos. It must be paid before the work ships or is delivered.
- Payment is made through my website or by invoice.
3. Revisions
- You get 2 rounds of revisions at the concept/sketch stage. This is the best time to change composition, subject, or colors.
- Once you approve the concept and I begin painting, big changes aren't possible. I'm happy to make small adjustments if they can be done well.
- Extra revisions or big changes after approval may cost extra. I'll always tell you the cost and get your OK first.
4. Artistic interpretation
You're hiring me for my style and my artistic eye. My work uses vibrant color, layered forms, and expressive movement. It often moves away from strict realism.
The finished piece will follow the approved concept, but it will be my artistic interpretation. It won't be an exact copy of a photo. Because of this, I can't offer refunds based on personal taste once the concept is approved.
5. Timeline
- A typical commission takes about 6–12 weeks after the deposit is paid.
- Your proposal will include an estimated completion date. It is an estimate, not a guarantee.
- Delays can happen with handmade work, because of drying times, materials, illness, or other things beyond my control. If there's a delay, I'll tell you as soon as I can.
- Delays caused by slow replies or late feedback from the client may push back the timeline.
- If you need the piece by a firm date (for example, a gift or event), please tell me before we start. I can't promise rush dates unless we agree in writing.
6. Reference photos and content you provide
- If you send photos, images, or other materials, you confirm that you own them or have permission to use them.
- I won't copy another artist's work. I may say no to requests that would infringe someone else's rights.
- Portraits (people or pets): If the painting shows a recognizable person, you confirm you have their permission (or a parent's permission for a minor) for me to paint them. You also give permission for me to share the work as described in section 8. If you'd like the piece kept private, tell me before we start.
7. Copyright
- I keep the copyright to every commissioned work, including sketches and concepts.
- You own the physical painting once it's paid in full.
- You may display, enjoy, sell, or give away the physical painting. You may share photos of it for personal use, with credit to me.
- You may not make prints, products, or digital copies, use it commercially, or use it for AI training, without a separate written license.
- I may make prints or licensed products from a commissioned work. If you'd like me not to (for example, a personal portrait), ask before we start. We can agree to that in writing. An extra fee may apply.
8. Portfolio and social media
I may photograph your commission and share it in my portfolio, website, social media, exhibitions, marketing, and publications. I will not share your name, address, or personal details without your permission.
9. Staying in touch
Commissions work best when we keep talking. I'll reply to your messages within a few business days. I ask the same of you.
- Paused: If I don't hear back from you for 30 days after I ask for feedback, approval, or payment, your project is paused. I'll move on to other work. When you reply, I'll fit you back into my schedule as soon as I can. Your timeline will change.
- Cancelled: If I still don't hear back after 60 days in total, and I've sent at least one written reminder, the commission counts as cancelled by you. Section 10 then applies: the deposit is kept, and I may keep, finish, show, or sell the work.
I'll always send reminders by email before a project is paused or cancelled.
10. Cancellation
If you cancel (or the project counts as cancelled under section 9):
- Please tell me in writing (email is fine).
- Once work has started, the deposit is non-refundable. Work starts when I begin planning, sketching, or buying materials for your piece.
- If I've done more than half of the work, you'll owe the full price. You'll receive the finished painting once paid.
- I may keep, finish, show, or sell any canceled work. Since I keep the copyright, I may also use the design in other work.
If I cancel:
- If I can't complete your commission for any reason, I'll give you a full refund, including your deposit.
Rescheduling: If you need to pause your commission, please ask. I'll do my best to fit you back in. A rescheduling fee of $50 may apply.
11. Final payment and unpaid finished work
- The final balance is due before the work ships or is delivered. I won't ship unpaid work.
- I'll hold finished work for you while you pay. If the final balance isn't paid within 60 days after I send the final invoice, and I've sent at least one written reminder, the commission counts as abandoned. Then:
- the deposit is kept,
- the agreement ends, and
- I may keep, show, or sell the painting.
12. Shipping and damage
Commissions are shipped insured. I photograph each piece before it ships to record its condition. My Shipping Policy and the "Damaged in shipping" section of my Refund & Return Policy apply. Please report damage within 48 hours of delivery, with photos of the art and the packaging.
13. Disputes
If something doesn't feel right, please talk to me first. I want you to love your piece. If we can't agree, the Governing Law section of my Terms of Service applies.
By paying your deposit, you confirm that you've read and agree to these Commission Terms.
