In Bloom, in mixed media on stretched canvas: a big magenta flower with a gold center over drippy turquoise, yellow and black marks, framed in black beside a kitchen counter.

In Bloom

$1,224.00

In Bloom is an original painting from the Sensory Overload Collection.

24” H x 30” W in mixed media on stretched canvas (2023).

In Bloom is a reflection on self-acceptance, transformation, and the difficult work of fully becoming yourself. The piece is a visual manifestation of a poem I wrote:

“I've painted over myself so many times-
I thought I'd be agreeable by now.
But it seems I must create a new serene,
if I ever hope to be In Bloom.”

Built through heavy texture and repeated layers, the surface carries the evidence of multiple revisions. Marks are covered, altered, and buried beneath new ones, echoing the ways we reshape ourselves in an effort to become more acceptable, agreeable, or easier for others to understand.

Against this dense, imperfect background, a flower begins to emerge. Though abstracted, it remains recognizable—a focal point that represents self-actualization and the possibility of becoming rather than correcting.

At its center, touches of gold shimmer through. Beneath all the layers of adaptation and self-editing, something essential remains: luminous, intact, and entirely its own.

In Bloom is about discovering that growth does not always come from becoming more acceptable to others. Sometimes, it comes from uncovering and embracing what was already there.
