The Money Keeps Us Divided, in mixed media on stretched canvas: a blush upper field and textured turquoise lower field divided by a band of gold, shown in a modern lounge.

The Money Keeps Us Divided

$1,750.00

The Money Keeps Us Divided is an original painting from the Sensory Overload Collection.

40”H x 30” W in mixed media on stretched canvas (2023).

The Money Keeps Us Divided examines the divisions created and sustained by capitalism, particularly between those we categorize as white or blue-collar workers.

The composition is split into two vast fields of peachy white and blue—distinct at first glance, yet strikingly similar in their movement. Within each, forms churn, twist, and push forward with tremendous energy, but ultimately go nowhere. The motion depicted is a reflection of labor itself: constant activity, striving, and productivity without the certainty of meaningful progress.

Between the two runs a band of gold. It is both alluring and disruptive—the visual representation of money as the force separating two groups whose experiences may be more alike than they appear. While we often define ourselves by occupation, status, or proximity to wealth, both sides remain caught within the same larger system.

The work asks us to consider whether the distance between us is truly as great as it seems or whether the thing we are all pursuing is also the very thing keeping us apart.
